From Tech Recruiter to World Traveler to Your Bend Window Washer.

I graduated from the University of Hawaii at Mānoa and went back to my hometown of San Diego, where I got a white-collar job as a tech recruiter for an international company. Learned a lot, sales, networking, how to budget. Honestly, I was happy there.

But I had an itch I couldn't scratch. Long-term world travel. I bought a one-way ticket to Australia, packed a small backpack, and left everything behind. What was supposed to be six months turned into a year and a half across Australia, Southeast Asia, Turkey, and Central and South America. Best decision I've ever made.

Eventually I ran out of money and moved back in with my parents while I figured out what was next. One afternoon, while scrolling job listings, the doorbell rang. It was a window cleaning salesman. I let him count the windows and give me a bid. He came back 45 seconds later and quoted me $599.

I was shocked. I never knew window washing could be that profitable. This guy was in his mid-twenties.

After he left, I went to Home Depot and spent $30 on basic window cleaning equipment. Cleaned my own windows. Loved it. Asked my neighbors if they'd pay $100. They said yes. I cleaned almost every house on the street that week, and decided that was it.

I moved to LA and started knocking on doors every day. Door sales isn't for the weak. But every time I got discouraged, I reminded myself: I'd rather be outside talking to people in my community than back behind a desk.
